We closed out the last millennium with a great year we can only hope the next thousand are just as good. Here's a brief recap of our lives since the last update:
As a Family everyone stayed in great health so we continued to be quite active: Skiing in Winter (Justine loved her first sessions on the slopes, with her mom setting the pace through a wonderful gadget called a "wee-ski"; Eric made it down his first black diamond run a bit more successfully than his dad could handle it on his new snowboard), lots of Biking, Hiking & Swimming in the summer (Eric jumped off the end of his grandparent's dock about 537 times; Justine will top that record next summer for sure), and we all continue to improve on the Rollerblades Lisa got for all of us about a year ago (by now we've almost learned how to STOP the darn things).
We also had some fun trips during the year. While our trips in 1998 seemed focused on Yosemite for some reason, last years' trips were apparently focused on crossing the continental divide as many ways as possible:
v We flew over the continental divide several times on our way to both Austin and South Carolina, during our regular visits to the grandparents.
v We traversed it by train on the way back from a trip to Colorado. The kids loved the train, especially the sleeping compartments; mom & dad enjoyed the views through the rockies, Utah and the Sierras.
v Lisa & Steve hiked, biked and drove over the northern portions of the continental divide (within sight of the hydrological apex of North America, BTW) while on a great "BackRoads" trip to the Canadian Rockies last July (sans kids).
v Another fun trip was in no way connected to the divide, but had a volcano instead: our first visit to Lassan Volcanic National Park and the Lakes Region of Northern California. We all got to glaciate down the side of a Volcano!
v The final method of crossing the divide, by boat, was accomplished during Steve's quick jaunt through the Panama canal as a porter for Loyd.
