About Eric

Eric continues doing mechanical engineering stuff at Google on their driverless car project.
His group just changed their name to Waymo. A division of Alphabet. Parent of Google. (Got it?)

He lives in a big home in Woodside with ten soulmates: some from college,
some from high school, some from work, others just wandered in and started eating.
They have 36 bikes, several cars that run, and they specialize in large fun parties & trips.

The Bus Lives!
But the brakes did die at one point.

This year he put a new engine in his cute
small blue diesel pickup truck.

He and his friends made a very successful bus trip
to Moab and they didn't lose a single person.

Who says Halloween is just for kids?

He spent much of the year helping Google automate this new Chrysler Pacifica:

In September he attended his 6th Burning Man.

With friends on the Las Vegas strip

And in an extraordinary modern remake of the man-vs-machine story, two housemates (Michael & Nathan, below left) challenged Eric to a bike race in the epic 129 mile "Death Ride" near Lake Tahoe. They passed each other 9 times! Atop the final climb (shown below), the challengers were 2 minutes ahead on their home-made electric tandem.  But Eric passed them on the downhill before the finish.
Machine vanquished. But perhaps for the last time...?  (Details here.)

He and his housemates paddled down the Russian river with house trophy dog Spoonkin.

Lots of camping, beach trips, bike trips, one 6-12-18-24 Challenge, multiple work trips to Detroit, and always lots of good food.

As usual, friends witnessed one or two new clothing outfits, various hats, hairstyles and facial hair throughout the year.
In general he looks like the shot below, but in our first sighting in 2017 the mohawk had returned!

Poor guy; maybe he'll finally get to visit Disneyland in 2017.
