About Justine

Once again, Justine spent most of 2018 outside. Camping, hiking, running, biking, and helping people.

She completed her third season working for ETC, organizing and leading kayak trips for disabled
adults and underprivileged youth. She enjoys this tremendously and is really good at it.

She also spent a second year volunteering regularly at the Crisis Support Hotline.
This can be extremely rewarding, but can also be very stressful.

AND she earned her BS degree in Biology from Colorado College.
(Parents yell Yay!!!)

Receiving big thanks from a small ETC client:
the best customer feedback ever.

Just another camp cleanup at beautiful Tomales Bay

These kayak trips usually start from Sausalito or Tomales Bay
(both just north of the Golden Gate bridge) and most involve overnight camping.

These trips require lots of prep (all the food, all the gear, staff & volunteer scheduling & assignments,
weather monitoring, handling special needs, etc), plus kayak skills training for the participants,
safety talks, rescues, boat retrievals (sometimes by swimming, and that water is COLD),
emergency repairs, constant surprises, lots of fun, and plenty of exhaustion.

Getting a beer from a friendly boater on the SF Bay... Huh?       A well-packed ETC van, ready for a trip

Outdoors in the ice & snow, trying  to stay warm
(that's her "don't touch my peanut butter" face)

Justine ice climbing! (Still prefers rocks)

Skiing in Fairbanks while
visiting Uncle Don and Aunt Anne
in November.

She loves Alaska, and is
planning to move there in 2019

When found inside, she is usually baking. Here she is with friends about to attack her own birthday cake
linda

And with a chocolate creme pie. YUM.

But mostly the Justine species is found outside

Her family had the great idea to get her a packraft
for her birthday. Don't worry -- it's already been
tested in far more exciting places than the pool.

She once again won a paddle race around
Angel Island with her boss Diane
(while wearing a wonder woman cape, of course)

She bikes everywhere. Including the Death Ride
for the second year in a row. And below, way ahead
of her dad during the Grizzly Peak Century.

Her ankle fared poorly in the fall (who even knew
you could sprain your ankle AND your heel?).
But she's already back to running for hours at a time.

Justine benefited from mom's desire to go back to Japan and got to tour around with an expert

They had a lovely time and caught the
cherry blossom season and perfect weather

Tackling yet another 14'er in Colorado

And at the Women's March in SF with BFF Emily

And at the very end of the year... she bought her first car! A real beauty for just $3,000.

Geez. Think how much more fun she'd have if she spent more time on Facebook.
