About Eric |
|
| Eric continued to split his life between
the 1st and 3rd worlds.
First part of 2019: Completed his first 9-month deployment for one of the world's greatest humanitarian non-profits (MSF -- please donate if able!) in South Sudan (a country crippled by conflict since the '80s). The deployment was rewarding, educational... and stressful. Second part: Enjoyed nearly 6 months of unemployment in the comfort of the 1st world. Living with 10 friends in SF. In October, joined more friends at FlyPyka.com. Spent a month in New Zealand crop dusting with their autonomous electric plane! Plus lots of biking, some kite-surfing, and a bit of running. |

As "hotel manager", Eric and his staff had to ensure all MSF
visitors to South Sudan followed the rules |
Eric was impressed with (most of) the other MSF expats in Juba, and they found ways to have fun ![]() |
| More friends from MSF Juba. He managed a bunch of local staff and worked with other expats from all over the world. ![]() |
He visited a number of remote MSF sites around South Sudan and worked to make them better. He got to help slaughter a goat for Eid, and build a tukul

His first break included kiting lessons in South Africa at the very end of 2018 |
Friends met him in Italy for a 2nd much-needed break from MSF duties in April ![]() |

Facial hair decisions still appear to confound Eric |
|
| We greatly admire Eric's rejection of one of the best jobs in the 1st world (engineer at Google) in order to immediately and directly improve conditions in the 3rd world via MSF; perhaps the biggest challenges are ones that technology will not help solve. |
