Family Stuff
As a Family we continued to be
quite active: Skiing in Winter
(Justine loved her first sessions on the slopes, with her mom setting the pace
through a wonderful gadget called a "wee-ski"; Eric made it down his first black
diamond run a bit more successfully than his dad could handle it on his new snowboard), lots of Biking, Hiking & Swimming in the summers
(both kids have jumped off the end of their grandparent's dock about 537 times), and we all continue to improve on the Rollerblades Lisa got for all of us about two years ago -- by now we've almost learned
how to STOP the darn things.

We took some great trips. For some reason, many of our recent
trips were apparently focused on crossing the Continental Divide as many ways as possible:
- We flew over the continental divide several times on our various trips
to Austin and South Carolina (grandparents) as well as on a trip to New Jersey (cousins).
- We traversed it by train
on the way back from a trip to Colorado. The kids loved the train, especially the sleeping
compartments; mom & dad enjoyed the views through the rockies, Utah and the Sierras.
- Lisa & Steve hiked, biked and drove over the northern portions of
the continental divide [Bonus Points: we were within sight of the hydrological apex
of North America] while on a great BackRoads
trip to the Canadian Rockies last July (sans kids).
- Finally, closing out the divide-crossings: Steve acted as porter to Lisa's dad on a trip
to Panama, where he sailed across the divide [Big bonus points!] at the
only place where this is possible: the Panama canal.
Some other fun trips were in no way connected to the divide: a trip to Seattle &
Whistler with friends, several ski trips to Tahoe with friends, our first visits to Lassan Volcanic National Park and the Lakes Region of Northern
California; a trip to Hearst Castle (pictured
above) and also to Sequoia National Park where we saw the biggest living thing on earth!
