About Eric
Lots of changes in Eric's life in 2010!
The Winter quarter
of his Senior year at Gunn High School was dominated by two main activities:
Wrestling (see pictures from last year's e-card) and
GRT, the Gunn Robotics Team lead by Physics teacher and general great
guy Bill Dunbar.
GRT built an amazing robot that did very
well in competitions in San Jose, San Diego and Atlanta.
A key reason for their success was the school-colored mohawks which
successfully intimidated many
opponents and made all (or perhaps most?) of the ladies swoon.
His girlfriend Elle was also on the GRT team,
and has stuck with him even after he chopped the 'hawk.
Eric performed in a Gunn "One Act" play written and directed by two of his good friends.
He ended up with an incredible group of good friends from Gunn, who have now
scattered
all over the country for college and other endeavors.
Shortly after graduation, Eric and two of those good friends toured Europe for three weeks.
Eric got a great summer job at a
biotech startup called Halcyon Molecular.
He learned lots about the complex area of human genome sequencing, got to
work with some amazing people,
made some meaningful contributions to their progress, and earned some money
as well.
In late September we packed him off to UC Davis,
which is thankfully only about 2 hours away.
And Amtrak runs there!

Eric started rowing crew at Davis and is loving it.
They work out six days a week, and get up every weekday at 5am. He gained 10 lbs in the first month.
In addition to crew and his classes, Eric's become involved in Davis'
Formula Hybrid team. Based
on his experience with his electric MG, they made him
team lead for the entire power train.
Recovering from all these activities required a few naps.
Eric had fun bouldering during our RV trip to the
Mojave desert over Christmas break.
The dogs were with us in the RV too,
but they take up very little space.
