About Steve

Steve still can't work an iPhone but was gifted an Apple watch and it's amazing!
Not only does it keep perfect time but Siri tells Steve great jokes during his runs:
Q: Why can't two trees swim?  A: Only one pair of trunks.
A Roman walks into a bar raises two fingers and gets five drinks.
Q: Why does Yoda hate 7?  A: 6, 7 8.

Oh, and it can monitor his email, messages, heart rate, location, and make calls too.
(Thanks Dr Yee)

Great progress at HEA this year.
Most homes saw their energy bills skyrocket while families worked and schooled from home,
and HEA's service is one of the few that can effectively help. So our customer-partner PG&E finally
agreed to promote HomeIntel and it's working great; they plan to do even more next year.
And after years of head-scratching Steve finally figured out how to help homes with
solar PV and those with electric vehicles. This took lots of work from the whole team but
is now up and running, with PG&E's blessing.

Outside of work he continued to promote "beneficial electrification" -- the shift from gasoline cars
to electric and from natural gas appliances to highly efficient electric heat pumps and induction cooktops.
Happily, more and more governments and leaders around the world are adopting the same goal.

Steve continues to be a frequent tree hugger
(both literally and figuratively)

He uses his Tesla for everything - road trips,
camping, even hauling tractors

While some struggled to find projects during quarantine Steve had plenty, including (in order):
more smudge pot improvements, a failed spinning tree sculpture, a new use for the old gas cooktop,
relocation of Eric's giant thrust bearing, a welded support for a giant leaning tree trunk,
design of a planned addition to the new teardrop trailer, multiple landscaping jobs requiring Tim's tractor, continued efforts to hang a moveable shade structure, growth of a Covid-tail, plus a failed attempt
at making all his battery powered tools mutually compatible.

He also spent lots of time trying to plug a leak in his Tesla using a solar panel.

The otherwise wonderful car LEAKS electricity (!!) while sitting idle in the garage, on the order of
several miles of driving range per day. This is pretty frustrating to an energy efficiency professional.
As the end of the year approaches, he thinks he's got it licked...
but had to incorporate an electric golf cart to store enough solar energy overnight.

He also went on many bike rides with friends,
both socially distant during Covid

and not so distanced pre Covid

He fully embraced a new trail making hobby,
here with his machete and hatchet.

He and friends made one very excellent new trail, about a half mile long, and they learned lots of
ways to get poison oak.

He took his love of bushwhacking and breaking trails to new heights at Muir Trail Ranch.
Sometimes he could convince others to join and sometimes not. But he practiced his selfies either way.

When not outside Steve managed to find other puzzles to solve (often with a martini)

And even convinced Josh to join on the
martini- puzzle train while conquering a
remarkably cool infinity puzzle from Nan.

He once again managed to eat well, helped by the fact that he was quarantined with a master chef.

He did eventually share some of this cake, though
Nan doesn't look too hopeful about that here.

Besides biking and tromping through the woods,
Steve managed to get a few laps in the pool

..and some runs too.

Note: A bonus of social distancing is you can wear stinky running clothes and still entertain.

Most importantly though, he spent another year with his favorite council member.
